Hi Susan,
I hear you! It does seem more and more that the culture is to just shoot off at the mouth without any disregard for whom may be hearing or reading what people are saying. It is a big issue I see around me everyday. There is so much power in our words, if only more people were aware of it.

BTW, you are such an amazing blessing doing what you do for AHS. Thank you and may God bless you over and above what you expect.

Ahhhhh the great Aussie whinging culture........

Susan.....from one working in IT I can only sigh and say MAN IT CAN ONLY GET WORSE.....as technology spirals upwards there will be less and less NORMAL people like YOU JOHN and my JAMES, who can stay and understand the cutting edge...let alone do something about it.......

There will however be a plethora of END USERS.......they expect perfection and will demand it. It will be the people that work on the back end that suffer and get slammed........the chasm (in my humble, wife of an IT person, opinion) will only widen not come together as technology charges ahead at this breakneck speed.......

Back end work will become more and more specialised/sophisticated and the normal "brick- layer" or "mum" or "Landscape gardener" or "student" even "nurse"who have a Facebook Page will never perceive the issues that people face on your end of the screen (the blue or black one.....most people have never even seen one!!!!)

On that note...James and I are praying and fasting about our direction in the IT field for precisely the same reasons. Please can I ask you and any other sympathetic readers to pray, we see that God may be leading us OUT....as it has a GIANT toll on James....pressure wise. But as to where and when ??????? God only knows...Thanks all Cathy :kissing:

In reply to <a href="https://simplysusan.com.au/5-reasons-for-change/#comment-1549">Footprints Diary</a>.

Hi Jillian,
10GB is fine for a blog or small static site but you have no idea how big AH is. Aside from what one sees on the outside there is all the security and data stored on the inside... then there are multiple backups and a mirror- for those times when things go wrong. Joomla is very large compared to WordPress, let alone the content and data that needs to be stored. $4.95 is a good and fairly typical price for hosting a small site but there is no way that it could come close to serving the needs of a interactive, community website serving 2,000 people.

That's some of the things that most people don't realise- exactly how much goes into a site like AH. It's not as simple as setting up a site, which nearly anyone can do. But it is keeping that data in tact and secure which is the tricky part.

Cheers,

First of all, I got a great giggle out of the picture you used. So funny :D
I agree with you Susan... Whinge, whinge is all I have heard. And why I don't know. I really like the new layout, and finder it cleaner, and faster.

Thanks for shedding some more light on the technical side.

Hi Susan,
My son's bandwidth only costs him $4.50 per month for 10GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth. :D

Facebook is one of those sites that have many users, and you know what they say - "You can't please all of the people all of the time."

Have a great weekend,
Blessings,
Jillian
