I am a homeschooling mom. My youngest daughter, adopted at 5 now 15, cuts. I have 4 older children all homeschooled thru highschool and never experienced this. I sought out a “Christian” counselor who told me the answer was to put my daughter in public school. Did you seek a counselor? If so what was his response?
So many sites such as Focus on the Family recommend a counselor. I regret it.

I used to hit myself, despite being raised in a Christian home. I managed to hide it from my parents as I did not want to disappoint them.

Hi Barbara,
I hear ya! I felt like that for too many years. Even when I started speaking up, I felt alone. People would email me privately and tell me that I wasn’t alone… but I felt like I was the only person who was talking about it. I wasn’t, but it sure can feel that way some times.

Thanks Dawn,
It was certainly all a shock to me in many ways… I asked many people but it wasn’t considered something that ‘Christians do’. It wasn’t until I started speaking out that I realised it was a lot more prevalent than I think most of us realise.

If we are confronted with this issue as parents, it doesn’t help if we ignore it or brush it under the carpet.

I hope to write a little more about it, in the following months.

So glad you addressed this. It’s so easy, at least for me, to feel like no one has any problems, especially among homeschoolers.

It is so common among homeschoolers to carry the mindset that “It couldn’t happen to us. Not our kids.” We have to realize that our kids are no different than any other kids! They are simply human. Susan you did a beautiful job explaining this.
