I for one am glad that I can’t vote…..in this election there’s not much choice.
I don’t like KR….from his days as a bureaucrat in the first Labor government after the Joh years and he seems too eager to please everyone.
And I think that a vote for JH is one for Peter Costello!

I hope that the whoever wins government won’t hold the balance of power in the senate.

Hi Susan,

Firstly, I don’t think you are being picky. If he is a Christian, he should be able to say so. If not, then he should say so too. It’s actually why I don’t like Rudd – he is pandering to whichever group he addresses and it’s hard to pin down what he actually stands for. I have a friend who is a lobbyist in Canberra. She told me that at a dinner she went to recently, Rudd was giving reassurances to the gay lobby about their position under a “Labor” government. So where does that fit with the reassurances he was giving recently in the ACL talks? I know all politicians do this sort of thing but in matters of faith and morality, there’s more on the line.

With regard to voting Family First, your preferences only get directed to FF’s priorities if you tick the box above the line and vote their way. You ALWAYS have the right to direct every preference if you want to. If you put FF as number 1 below the line (on the Senate ticket) and then number every box in the order you want it to be in then your preferences matter. You can give FF the number one vote and the major party of your choice will get the preferences. Does that make sense?

Hi Jacqui,
My concern is that when voting FF, their preference votes may to go someone I wouldn’t want to vote for anyway.

That’s why I just won’t vote the way FF or anyone else says so. I have to do it the hard, long way.

I might vote for FF, but if their preference goes to Rudd/Labour or to Howard/Liberal then I want to know who their preference is for. KWIM? It’s not easy is it?

Any thoughts or ideas on where to find some good info?

A lot of christians think that way about voting for Family First and sadly they miss out on crucial votes because of that. I am not sure who their preference goes to but it depends on who they feel have the best “morals” for government. The vote is not wasted though! just one person in the senate is a voice to be reckoned with!!

Oh yes, I agree in that Family First is a good option but sadly, I do not think they will win the election so it’s a case of the next best option.

Yes, unfortunately Christianity and politics does seem to be a difficult combination. if only it wasn’t so.

My vote goes to the Family First party! At least they are not afraid to voice their christian belief regardless of those who would mock them for it.
Politics and christianity is often a difficult combination. I am wary of those who shout “christian” in order to gain the popular vote. Maybe we should look at the “fruit” in their lives?

Very interesting Susan. We too had thought he was a good choice for PM. When he first came to the forefront as the possible new Labour leader, he appeared quite out there regarding his Christian beliefs. I was rapt, as was David. But, over time, we have not seen the fruit of character that would back-up his claims. No, you are not picky. If you claim to be a Christian, than there is to be no hesitation to the question asked. It was a question he wasn’t prepared for, and what is scary, is that his response, which would have been without rehearsal, was not able to say “yes, of course”. As the scriptures say, ‘out of the heart, the mouth speaks’.
Each to his own beliefs I suppose, but don’t try to fool the public; at leat not those whose answer would be “yes” to the question asked.
It just reveals that he is able to manipulate the truth and be dishonest – but what is new with politicians?? Thanks for sharing…
