I wholeheartedly agree Susan. I pushed my second child to keep up with my first who was a natural. When she finally got it I realised I should have just waited a bit longer and saved us both the heartache.
I waited with my next two and the road has been a lot smoother.

Susan,

Excellent post. I'll be referring to it. This is almost exactly what happen with my two older boys. The girls all read early, the boys late. I worried needlessly.

Thanks for telling us about Willard Price's Adventure Series. It is just what I need for my 7 and 9 yr olds!

Hi Susan, Thank you so very much for all your comments - it has been a great help and well worth the wait. It was like eating rump steak - no bones to throw out and very enjoyable! Co-inciding with this my Old Schoolhouse magazine arrived and there was an article in there of a girl who learned to read at 12. Very encouraging. As a youngster myself I used to read Teddy's Button by Amy le Feuvre, and I discovered a site the has the entire books that can be down loaded for free - and it has a number of her books - what a find. It is http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page.
So once again - thank you very much.
