I pushed my second child to keep up with my first who was a natural. When she finally got it I realised I should have just waited a bit longer and saved us both the heartache.

Excellent post. I’ll be referring to it. This is almost exactly what happen with my two older boys. The girls all read early, the boys late. I worried needlessly.

It was like eating rump steak – no bones to throw out and very enjoyable! Co-inciding with this my Old Schoolhouse magazine arrived and there was an article in there of a girl who learned to read at 12. Very encouraging. As a youngster myself I used to read Teddy’s Button by Amy le Feuvre, and I discovered a site the has the entire books that can be down loaded for free – and it has a number of her books – what a find.
