The challenges of raising a child are as much for the sanctification of the parents as they are for the benefit of the child.
~ Bryan Chapell

Yet another quote from MacArthur
We’re certainly not to think that God’s sovereignty in salvation means the way we raise our kids is immaterial. God often uses faithful parents as instruments in the salvation of children.

Too true Jo, too true. I know you know of the situation I speak of... but it doesn't matter. It's trie. Too often we parent in fear. I don't need to be a control freak because God truly is on The Throne... in all areas. It's a shame that, at times, I have tried to compartmentalise this parenting business... there's my walk with God and then there's my parenting job. But they're all intertwined!!!!

The key, and the only key that has worked for me AND given me a sense of peace is exactly that -- Trusting In Him.

Oh that is totally it, Jo. I was trying to say that but was not very eloquent. I have really been wondering how we can assimilate the role of parent to raise and protect out children with trusting God and not being too overbearing. You know what I mean?

It's our defensive mechanism isn't it? "If we can control it, it can't hurt us." I struggle with this too, but am slowly losing my grip on control freak tendencies as I learn to trust in Him. (Emphasis on slowly!!)

I know how you feel with the control tendencies. I think for me it happens when I get a bit stressed, my default mode is to control everything. I hate it when I am doing it but struggle to step back, unless I kneel before Him. He is the only one who can change those reactions. I pray you have a positive experience while your hubby is away and are able to let go of that control a wee bit.

LOL. I've forgotten all the (nifty) comments I was going to make when I read this this morning!
While it's true, the Lord is no doubt working things out in your own personality etc, I think most of have to run a pretty tight ship when Dad is working away or otherwise absent.
Hope the time flies by till he returns and you all have lots of good times in the meantime. Great to have you post too. Is hubby with the army or something? That's one big convoy!
