I see the incredible amount of years I spent in helping to build a program called a 'church', when God 'shattered' that idea and showed me his Son already established his Church in us. I'm not against people having a building to gather in, but not when the building becomes an idol coupled with threats of curses if you happen to not go. I think our traditions have become 'towers' instead of symbols of what was already done. And the political machine looks very much the same, but I'll hold off on that one. ;)

I hadn't read the account of the tower of Babel for a very long time, so was amazed to be reminded of how short it is, just a few verses to describe an event which changed the world. How many of our sinful attitudes and deeds are the same? They may seem like a good idea and we may even find excellent reasons to justify our actions. After all, how bad can building and living in a city be? Think of the advantages, there is safety in numbers, you can share resources and be near your friends just to name a few. Yet God had clearly told them to separate out over the earth. So first they ignored what God had said and then they proceeded
to build a tower to heaven! We know we cannot please God by our own strengths and accomplishments, yet it is so easy to get trapped into trying to do just that before without even noticing. How often do we judge peoples commitment to God by how much they do? Do we try and set ourselves on pedestals because of the "good" we do?
