My all-time personal favourite was a lady who said to me at church one day "Are you a Teacher?" (after learning we were Homeschoolers) to which I replied "No, I was a Secretary". Her reply was "Oh, well at least you'll be organised then". What the??!!! So I won't "teach" my kids but they'll be "organised". I had to excuse myself before I burst out laughing in front of her. People have funny ideas!!

Mind you, my brother & sister-in-law homeschooled way back before I ever had kids, and to my shame I used to think "those poor kids, stuck at home with only Mum for company every day". Duh! Then I became a homeschooler myself, years down the track. I think God has a good sense of humour!

Fee :-)

p.s. Susan, have you received any emails from me this week?

I don't guess I've had too many funny comments! Guess I get the usual, run-of-the-mill comments and questions like "I don't have the patience" and the classic "what about socialization?!" Which if you think about it is pretty funny!

When my 8 year old found out we were going to homeschool, he immediately asked "But how am I going to find a girlfriend?"!!

My brother in law was a high school drop out because he hated discipline - when he found out we were going to HS, his first bit of "advice" was "Well, as long as you install strong discipline to your schooling hours!!"

Every time I have a baby (and I have had a few since homeschooling  )returning the children to school always seems to be the main source of conversation among my relatives. The other day my sister started talking to our son about school and asked him if he would like to go and he jumped up and down with excitement and said "Oh yes yes, I do want to go", which obviously gave my sister some much needed armour for the opposition! on speaking to my son later I realised that he had no idea what school was but liked the sound of the playground aspect at lunchtime!......he has only just turned 4 after all
My sister keeps telling me that "school is not like it used to be jacqui", which makes me think that she views my school experience like something out of Tom Brown's schooldays!! and obviously need enlightening for my own dear children's sake.
Ah well, ten years down the track and nothing new under the sun

Ack! Rose, I wonder where on earth the teacher who said that got that information from? Wow!

Yes, we've had the type of comments that go like, "Well, now you'll have to put them in school eh?" whenever a life crisis or situation would arise. But over the years people have come to see and accept that this is our lifestyle.

Love the comments...keep them coming!

My Mom said "Now you won't be able to homeschool" after I had twins. She was meaning it would be to hard having three children to homeschool. I saw it quite differently in that I would only have to teach two grades at a time :).
