Turn off the TV, the computer, the electronic gadgets.

Get into a routine with some simple chores.

Spend time reading outloud, baking, playing games together, going for walks, talking about God. Re-connect with each other, with God, with life.

Be productive but in simple and creative ways.

It's amazing how much more everyone will be receptive to learning once they have tuned out the noise of the world and re-discovered the simple things in life.

This past year we began preschool and I didn't realize (or consider) easing into things. I first became so frustrated that we stopped everything. I re-grouped and began having my daughter sit at the kitchen table and play with play-doh or I let her cut and glue construction paper. Letting her do this allowed her to increase her tolerance for sitting still and I realized I needed to S.L.O.W. D.O.W.N. Great advice for any new Home School Mom. Our kids need time to ease into the learning mode.

Blessings and Thanks!

Like Sombra said, add one subject at a time. Ease into it.
Also if you get to the end of the year and you have not completed the whole book look through what's left and decide what concepts need to be taught as most curriculums especially American ones review in the beginning of the next year.

Relax, relax and relax!

Enjoy your children, enjoy spending time with them, doing things together....don't be a 'teacher' be a mum.

And finally relax!

Take it slowly. Enter the whole concept slowly. Take on one subject that your child really enjoys and work with that subject for a long while until both you and your child are feeling confident, then add one more subject.. adding new subjects one at a time until you've got all the things in that you want over a period of time. This way you're not overwhelming yourself - or your child - with a workload that can seem daunting! We re-enter the school year like this every year, one subject at a time, until we've worked away the summer wiggles, and eased ourself into our school schedule.
