A Bible study for teenage boys
Homeschool Boys ~ What is a homeschool? An education… a journey… an adventure… a lifestyle of twists, turns and trails. If your sons are like mine…. they are 4 wheelers and are always heading OFF trail. That is where this site comes in. Find here information and encouragement for moms of boys from a mom of all boys.
I know this ‘mom’ from an online forum. She knows her stuff!
How should we homeschool boys? Anyone who has ever been a parent to a little boy can tell you that they are generally louder, more energetic, and more physical than little girls. So when we homeschool boys, why do we think we can use the same teaching methods that we use for girls?

Great list Susan, I’ll be off to follow some of these links soon. The differences between boys and girls, and how to home school to these differences, has been on mind lately. My eldest son is soon to turn 12, sandwiched between 3 girls, and then there are my two footy/soccer mad younger sons at the end. With these two I sometimes feel that our home is a sports ground! I just don’t think water colours, Monet, and poetry are going to be such a big hit with them!! 🙂 My eldest boy is considering joining air cadets next year, and right now he is LOVING the Progeny Press study guide on The Lord of the Rings that we purchased just for him. This, and the complete-a-sketch series have helped to distinguish his education from that of his sisters. I’ve just ordered Wild Things from the Book Depository and am looking forward to reading it and gaining more insight into the world of boys. We own and love Do Hard Things, and some of the others on your list. I just wrote a post about my boys on my blog…a reminder to cherish their adventure seeking ways!
Melanie 🙂
Hi Melanie,
Yes, I know what you mean. Monet and poetry and crocheting aren’t on my boys list of things to do either 🙂
Both of my sons are now Air Force cadets. Master J has been a cadet for 2 years and Master C has only been in for 1 month. They both love it. I can’t begin to tell you all that Master J has learned through cadets- I am so very thankful for it. However… the culture is very worldly, not godly so it’s important to keep communicating with them and keep that relationship growing.
Master J has been asked to partner a friend for her Cadet Debuntee Ball so he will be going to dance classes and learning all those other fine, elegant skills. He’s not overly keen on the dance lessons but I am. I’ve always wanted my children to learn to dance yet it seems that out of all of them, he will be the one to actually do it. 🙂
A few years ago, when I was strongly involved in CM type groups I did feel that boys weren’t truly catered for. Of course they need the fine arts but they also need some rough n tumble and other masculine things.
Yes, thanks from me also for those links which I will try to check out as time permits. I rather like the boy thing but sometimes do feel the pressure to get the academics done.
Like Melanie, the finer arts are not in my boys minds. If we can relate it to a basketball player, team or other sports related theme we can do quite well. I am amazed how much American Geography my boys know just from following the NBA!
Hehee Ruby, sounds similar to our house! I relate things back to sport or cadets or survival skills- not to the finer arts. 😉
Oh boys, I absolutely *love* homeschooling my boys- quite different to the girls. Maybe it’s because I am female but I just the way they act and the way they think- so different to me 😀
Well, hi there Susan, Sharon here from home school fellowship. I was just browsing around the internet and ran into your article. I’d love it if you’d add my site http://www.homeschoolboys.com to your list of resources.
Sharon.
Hi Sharon,
Why it would be my pleasure! Sorry that it wasn’t mentioned previously… but it is now!
