Falcon’s Schedule ย Term One 2012
A few weeks ago I posted the subjects that both boys were studying – at school and here at home. This is Falcon’s schedule. It looks pretty heavy but he devised this schedule (and tweaks it to suit) pretty much by himself.
Falcon is a stickler for abiding by the schedule… almost down to the last minute. You can imagine that this trait drives me batty. But it’s how he works best.

Our schedule this year looks completely different to any other year. But, this is the first year that we have ever had only one child at home! I always knew this child liked learning and liked schedules but it’s not until this year that I see him thriving in his new environment!
I think his workload is quite rigorous. Others may not think so but I do. However, it goes hand in hand with our goals, for this child, for this year. Not bad, considering that he was pretty much unschooled for the most part of his life so far.
What a guy!
Wow that is really full on for homeschooling. I grew up in a family that found we could cover everything the schools did in half the time, so school generally started at 9 and ended at lunchtime for us, with a fun item, like a science project or art, in the afternoon.
Of course I’m not critisizing you, you have to work to the child and the goals and everything else, and we’re all different, but I can’t imagine, personally, doing homeschool from 8:30 till 3:30! Yikes!
Hi Abba,
To be fair though, one would have to have read my blog from the beginning to get a more accurate view of our homeschooling. I did mention that we have veered toward the unschooling/natural learning/delight directed approaches for the boys and now their delight and interests are taking them on an academic path toward their adulthood. We certainly have not learned our lessons this way since the beginning, although I know of others families who have!
The other point to consider is that he is at home, by himself. Of course he is with me but the unusual thing is that none of his siblings are at home now! The poor thing. Imagine being the youngest, therefore always having someone else around to play with, and then turning 14 and being alone all day. Yes, quite the adjustment for the young man who loves devising schedules and sticking to them. He is really enjoying this new schedule that he devised… although I wonder how long he can keep up the pace. If I can see he is being burdened by it or struggling or not continuing to love learning then I’ll assess it and get him to pull back. But as he plays catch up, builds confidence and streams ahead I’m there cheering him on. ๐
The beauty of home education is its diversity, it’s ability to be fluid, it’s flexibility.
Ahh. Funny you.
I’m sure you’ll both flex as need be. ๐
