I’m going to start a new Bible study… and I thought some other women might like to join me. I am super excited to start. Want to join me?
Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament
By Nancy Guthrie. This is a ten-week Bible study through the book of Genesis oriented specifically for what Genesis has to show us about who Christ will be and why he will come. There are weekly lessons, including discussion questions. Participants could either respond on their own blog or here in the comment section. Click here to download a pdf sample of the study.
I love the Old Testament. I’ve studied for several years now and I always learn new (new to me) things with every reading. Last year I did another Bible study called Taking the Old Testament Challenge by Judson Poling and it was fantastic… so I just know this one is also going to be excellent.
The weeks or chapters of this study are:
- The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24)
- Creation (Genesis 1:1-2:3)
- The Fall (Genesis 2:4-3:24)
- Noah and the Flood (Genesis 6-9)
- The Tower of Babel (Genesis 10:1-12:3)
- Abraham (Genesis 12-15)
- Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 16-24)
- Jacob (Genesis 25:19-35:21)
- Joseph (Genesis 37-50)
- The Sons of Jacob (Genesis 29-30, 34-35, 38-39, 48-49)

Considerations
- You will have to purchase the book but Amazon has the Kindle version for under $10. Alternatively, Word and Koorong also have the book and/or ebook for a good price.
- This study uses the English Standard Version and the New Living Translation. Available freely online.
- Nancy Guthrie is from the Reformed/Protestant perspective
- Term 2 starts on the 23rd April… so you’ve got a few weeks to purchase the book and get ready. 🙂
Sounds good. What sort of time commitment is involved, Susan?
Oh ruby,
How long is a piece of string? LOL I guess it could be as little or as long as you’d like to put in. I’ll be upfront and say that I don’t have oodles and oodles of time at the moment. There’s a lot going on in life but this term may be the best one for me… and I really want to do it. For me, it will be part of my daily Bible reading. The longest part will be writing and putting my thoughts down on the blog. But seeing as how I don’t attend a ladies Bible study or anything like that, I’m going to put in an hour a week, aside from the reading, to write. I think. I’ll know more as the days go on…
But it will be like any other study – the more I put in, the more I’ll get out of it. But how much time can I devote to it right now? Not as much as you might think. We’re looking at some major lifestyle changes in term 3… I have term 2 to get organised and ready. 🙂
Thanks Susan, I ordered the book earlier and would love to join in whatever format. Will have to see how it goes time wise but might be able to use it here family wise as well. In the past I have found similar studies great but quite time consuming. If I get behind I can always stop and do it myself at leisure, Looking for ward to the interaction.
Yay! Someone else I can learn from. I know you’re busy Ruby… but I would love your insight and gems that you share. 🙂
No more busy than any one else but probably sleep a lot more!
I am interested in doing it also. I am scared of the commitment though as I have found things often crop up as soon as you put your hand up for something like this lol.
Amanda, I totally know what you mean. Although the guide/book itself isn’t overly expensive so you could always do it another time if you ‘wandered off’ halfway 😉
I am definitely interested. I hope I am not too late to join up. I need some accountability with my bible time at the moment. I love Genesis also.
