Regular readers of my blog will know that I don’t do stats– don’t care about them, don’t record them in any way. It’s just not important to me. While visiting The Mother Lode today (who incidentally has a great post on “What curriculum should I use for my Kindegardener? ) she talked about AlphaInventions. Having absolutely no idea what it was I thought I’d pop over there and see. I’m still not sure what it is but it is designed to get page hits for your site. In the interest of seeing how this works and with the aim of letting others know about it in case it interests them, I thought I’d give it a whirl. Alphainventions.com is useful for wordpress.com, typepad.com, spaces.live.com, and blogger.com.

Um, I wouldn’t bother. They connected my blog (don’t know how they came across me exactly), but yes, you get loads more hits, but it is only that: a hit. They don’t actually read your posts, and it is like a fleeting 2 second look. It is not all it is cracked up to be.
WordPress forums have heaps of comments about it, and mostly all say the same thing. Good in theory, but really, I am not interested in having a 100 more people show up on my stats, if that is all they do: show up. I would be happy if these hits actually generated someone, even one person, reading my stuff. If not, it is only good for the stat-ego person.

Well, there you go. Thanks Amanda. I guess for some people, especially those in business, it’s a bit of a quirky way to get some traffic…but ehy I’m not into traffic anyway- always brings way more spam with it. 🙁
Thanks Amanda….someone else told me a very similar thing. I was just tickled because my hits went through the roof. And yes…if even one regular comes out of this…I’ll be happy.
I’m a writer so getting my web presence out there is pretty important to me so the web counter is more of a barometer of how well my name’s getting out there. So…it’s also good to know that alphainventions is probably “tickling my web counter” as this other guy said. I’ll take the hits with a grain of salt.
